Tutus to Trainers: From the Ballet to the Gent Marathon!

Hello Activastic Fam!

As you're reading this, I'm likely somewhere high above the Atlantic, my heart filled with a mix of excitement and a touch of nervous energy. This Sunday, I'll be lacing up my shoes not just for another run, but for the Sofico Gent Marathon 2025 – a race that holds a deeply personal significance as it takes place in my hometown of Ghent, Belgium!

This journey back to Ghent, this return to run the streets where my story began, feels like the culmination of a winding path paved with ballet slippers, stage boards, study books, and ultimately, countless miles on the roads and trails.

Born and raised in Belgium, my formative years were spent immersed in the rigorous world of professional ballet, training at the prestigious Royal Ballet School in Antwerp. Those years instilled in me a profound appreciation for discipline, consistency, dedication, and the incredible capabilities of the human body. From the precision of a plié to the energy of a grand jeté, movement was my first language.

That language expanded onto the vibrant stages of musical theatre. I had the incredible opportunity to perform in iconic productions like Cats, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Hello Dolly. The thrill of performance, the camaraderie of the cast, and the sheer joy of bringing stories to life were unforgettable experiences.

Life, as it often does, led me down a different path. I transitioned into the world of office and business management, embracing new challenges and developing a different set of skills. But a part of me always yearned for that physical outlet, that feeling of pushing my limits and connecting with my body in a meaningful way.

That's when I found running. It wasn't a sudden revelation, but a gradual awakening sparked by the inspiring example of my sister-in-law, an avid runner. Sadly, she lost her battle with cancer, but her passion for running left an indelible mark on me. For me, running quickly became more than just exercise. It became a sanctuary, a time for introspection, a way to process my thoughts, and incredibly, a way to feel closer to the loved ones I've lost. With every stride, I feel their presence, their encouragement.

This profound connection to running ignited a desire to share its transformative power with others. That's how Activastic was born. Becoming a Certified Personal Trainer allowed me to merge my lifelong love of movement with a passion for helping people discover their own strength, both physically and mentally. My journey, from the discipline of ballet to the endurance of running, has shaped my training philosophy – one that emphasizes listening to your body, finding joy in movement, and celebrating every step forward.

Living in Maine now, I've found a new home that resonates deeply with my soul. The natural beauty here is breathtaking, the people are warm and genuine, and there's an undeniable zest for life that I absolutely adore. Truly, there's no place I'd rather be. Yet, the pull of my roots has always been strong, and the opportunity to run a marathon in my home town feels incredibly special. Becoming an American citizen later in life was a proud moment, and now, returning to Belgium to run this race feels like a beautiful way to honor both parts of my identity.

Soon I'll be running these streets!

All through my training and as I prepare to take on the 26.2 miles (or 42 kilometers) of the Sofico Gent Marathon, I know that fueling my body correctly will be crucial. That's why I rely on 6AM RUN, a brand that understands the specific nutritional needs of runners. Their range of supplements is designed to support energy levels, enhance recovery, and help you push your limits. I personally believe in their products and am excited to offer them to the Activastic community. This isn't my first race, but running in Ghent feels different. It's a homecoming, a chance to reconnect with family and friends, and a deeply personal challenge on familiar ground. The streets I once knew as a child will become the path of my marathon journey.

I'll be sharing updates from Belgium on my Activastic social media, so be sure to follow along! Wish me luck as I embark on this incredible experience.
